Two Weeks in Guatemala
Today marks the beginning of our third week in Antigua, Guatemala. So much has happened in so little time. We spent our first ten days at Casa de Fuego, a hostel owned by an American couple, and spent lots of hours doing life with world racers. It always amazes me the way God brings people together at just the right times. God connected my heart with one particular racer, and we spent many hours talking. I’m convinced there is a reason for every season of life we go through and somehow God connects us through the generations to grow our faith in Him. It is a beautiful thing!
Can I just say now that we LOVE our Adventures in Missions ministry team.?! From the moment we met them, we have enjoyed unity of heart and vision. We feel so loved and encouraged by not only our team, but the surrounding community and church body. Antigua is an amazing place, full of people hungry to know and serve the Lord. There has been much prayer coming into this season of change and growth of ministry. Our long term missionaries have been living together under one roof for three years and provided a place of rest for individuals and teams transitioning in and out of the country. Now they are finding individual housing. This week we have been living in the casita on the property of the team house while house/apartment hunting. As of today, we are the last piece of the puzzle. We are now the proud owners of a motor scooter, and we move into our new apartment on Monday!!!
So what does a “normal” week look like for us? Mondays begin our week with a staff meeting, training and prayer. One-on-ones with all our staff members. Calls and emails to U.S. base, team, and new contacts. Texts or calls with home to check in. This week presented a special opportunity to go to Lake Atitlan to meet with some pastors. God has given us an incredible Guatemalan pastor to partner with that seeks the global vision of reaching the nations. We are honored to spend time hearing his heart and come alongside him. His family hosted us for dinner, but there was a greater blessing awaiting us all. As we were getting ready to part ways, we invited a visiting family member to go to church with us. He was very reluctant and spoke of his back pain, so we asked if we could pray for him. He agreed, so we asked him to take off his brace so we could pray over him. It was a powerful moment and tears began to flow as he straightened up and held his back. The pain was gone!! He came reluctant, but he left a believer in Jesus. This is what it’s all about. Introducing people to the saving power of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We look forward to sharing life with you in the upcoming weeks and months here in Guatemala. Stay tuned for more of what God is doing here. Love you all.
